Hedging Specialists

Hedges last a life time so it is important to get advice on what will grow best in your garden. The main reasons for growing a hedge are to mark the boundary of a property and to give privacy but they can serve may other purposes such as bringing wildlife to your garden and providing shelter for flower beds.

We grow and stock a complete range of hedging plants. Whether you want a formal beech hedge, an instant screen or a hedge of native species acting as wildlife sanctuary we can provide the plants. More importantly we can provide the knowledge and advice that you will need to grow your perfect garden.

Our stock of hedges includes:

• Heritage Hedges: Box, Yew, Laurel, Beech, Hornbeam and Thuja.
• Seaside Hedges: Olerias, Escallonias, Griselinia Eleagnus Ebbengii and others tolerant of salt and exposure.
• Native Indigenous Hedging: Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Guelder Rose, Spindle, Elder Honeysuckle, wild roses and Fuchsia.

Trees at Barrys Garden Centre

Trees give structure to both landscape and garden. No garden is complete without one. The exotic cherry blossom will mark the arrival of spring while the winter silhouette of the sycamore or hornbeam against the evening sky is a wonder of nature. Trees bring a majestic beauty to our gardens.

But trees can be fussy about soil types and conditions. Many trees are suitable even for very small gardens but some require larger areas to grow to full maturity. Take advice and help your garden grow to its full potential.

• Trees for Spring Blossoms: Cherry blossoms (white and pink) and the magnificent magnolia are part of the range we stock.
• Trees for Autumn Colour: Beech, Norway Maple and Mountain Ash colour the October countryside.
• Trees for Food: We stock the beautiful and useful apples, pear, sweet chestnut, walnut and hazel trees.
• Trees for Winter Colour and Bark Colour: White and silver birches, coloured willows, and golden ash will light up your winter garden.

We stock a complete range of trees that will thrive in Irish conditions. We stock a small number of trees in pots during the summer but we will have available a complete selection of bareroot standard trees from November which you can see and select in full leaf on the nursery now. This list will be available on the website from October.
